Description

The ADSBee m1090 Eval Board provides a platform for evaluating the ADSBee m1090 module, for integration into OEM designs.

Note that this includes the ADSBee m1090 module, which is a single band receiver only with no network functionality (no sub-GHz radio or ESP32). Pins for all m1090 functions are broken out on either edge of the m1090 Eval board as 2.54mm pin headers. If desired, an external ESP32 S3 evaluation board and a TI CC1312 launchpad can be connected to restore full ADSBee 1090U functionality. A JTAG-style SWD programming header is provided in order to grant debugger access to the ADSBee m1090 module.

The m1090 includes only a single LNA gain stage, with 1090MHz SAW filters on either side. Compared to the ADSBee 1090U, this configuration provides reduced receive range but improved noise immunity. To restore RF gain to the configuration found in the ADSBee 1090U, an external +20dB LNA can be connected to the m1090 module by switching the position of two 0402 capacitors (hot tweezers recommended, but hot air will do the trick as well).

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Where can I find the design files for the ADSBee m1090 footprint?
    • Gerbers and KiCAD design files are available for the ADSBee m1090 evaluation board. Please contact john@pantsforbirds.com or get in touch over discord, we’ll send you the files! Files will be posted publicly for download once things are more mature. For now, we want to make sure that customers have a solid line of communication available before receiving design files so that we can provide support as required.
  • Why doesn’t the ADSBee m1090 include all the features of the ADSBee 1090U?
    • ADSBee m1090 is intended as a barebones way to add a wide range of ADS-B in functionality to a design. Customers can add the sub-GHz radio and ESP32 as external components if they are required in their designs. The ADSBee m1090 runs the same firmware as the ADSBee 1090U and can control the same external radios, as long as they are connected identically to the schematic of the ADSBee 1090U. By breaking as many parts as possible off of the m1090 module, customers have more flexibility with final integration and can receive a much lower cost solution.
  • Why is this eval board so expensive?
    • This eval board is a low volume product intended as a tool for developer validation of the m1090, and as such is produced in very low volumes. Pants for Birds does not recommend this eval board for direct integration into projects that aren’t targeting the m1090 module. For a more affordable ADS-B receiver option with enhanced functionality, we recommend purchasing an ADSBee 1090U.
